He isn't really sure how it happened, the first time. He went to make some jelly for toast, his thoughts drifted, perhaps, and he ended up not just with the jelly, but also with several bananas. This was, as you can imagine, a huge shock, and he actually jumped back when he first noticed them, startled by the absolute jumpscare of their appearance. He calmed down quickly enough, and started playing around to see what would happen.

In a way it makes sense. He has been able to tell that everything is more magical here this month, a complete opposite to the effect Dark had on things. During Dark his powers were weakened, so it would follow they are stronger now. He just didn't assume that would mean expanding his powers.

This, of course, brings us to now. It's early afternoon in one of the many parlors of the mansion, and he seems to finally have gotten the hang of things, as evidenced by the fact that he's absolutely surrounded by various fruits, fruit wines, preserves, vegetables, and even a few bags of rice. His thyrsus, which has scarcely left his side since he found it a few days ago, is resting against a wall. If his new powers are linked just to Rainbows, that means he has less than twelve hours to enjoy them. He's reasonably certain that the thyrsus will remain after the season changes.

"My goodness!" says Susan, walking past and taking two steps backward to pause in the doorway. "What have we here?"

"Susan!" Dionysus calls, excitedly. "Look! I can make things that aren't grapes! I -- I think it's because of Rainbows, but I just realized it today! Do -- ah, d'you need anything? Ooh, ooh, I know, hold on, one... second..." He makes a jar of cucumbers that he then promptly turns into a jar of pickles.

"What tremendously good fortune," says Susan, coming through the door. She doesn't take the jar of pickles, but she does kneel down to start investigating everything else he's produced.

“I’m just mad at myself that I didn’t realize until today,” he says. He doesn’t sound particularly mad though, because he’s grinning and there’s a laugh to his words.

“Nope!” He makes a little basket of strawberries and sets it down on a table.

“Is there anything I can make for you? Oh! Oh, I know Dark is a ways off still, but d’you need anything for your preparations for that?” He wants excuses to make stuff while he can!

"I imagine that anything which might last half a year shouldn't go amiss."

Aziraphale, in search of either Crowley or of a pen he misplaced several days¹ ago, wanders distractedly into the parlour. Promptly, he is distracted not by his search but by the prodigious quantity of various foodstuffs surrounding Dionysus. "Oh!" he says with surprise, but perhaps also with a bit of rising delight. "What in the world is all this?"

¹Weeks?

"Aziraphale!" Dionysus says, positively beaming. "I think the season gave me extra powers! Isn't it exciting?"

[az_fell]

"That is exciting," says Aziraphale with enthusiasm. He stoops and picks up a bottle of apple wine, quite intrigued. "My miracles have been uncommonly cooperative this month."

[vineleaves]

“Would you like anything?”

[az_fell]

"Well, what are the parameters? How extra is extra?"

[vineleaves]

"Well, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume it's only plant-based things." Though he's just basing that off of vibes, really. Maybe he should test it.

He thinks really hard about a little chicken friend for Sagramore's current chicken. Like, really, really hard.


He is left with a little wicker chicken sculpture made out of grape vines.

"...Okay, yeah, just plants. But it seems like I can make things that are made out of plants, at least." He motions toward a bottle of sake he already made.

Aziraphale blinks at the wicker chicken. "That's darling, though," he says good-naturedly and even truthfully. It would be a bit rude to point out that he can generally make whatever he likes, including chickens. Rabbits, for instance. Hm, perhaps he ought to check on those rabbits one of these days.

[vineleaves]

Dionysus is more than used to being around people -- notably his family -- who can generally make whatever they want. And can shape shift. And can teleport. And can do a whole host of things that he cannot, and who (other than a few notable exceptions), have made him feel less than because of it his whole, very long life. He is a very powerful god, he's an Olympian for crying out loud, it's just that he's very powerful at a few incredibly specific things, which under normal circumstances does not involve making any food other than grapes.

So this is like an absolute dream come true to him, even if he's reasonably certain he'll wake up tomorrow back to normal.

"It is pretty cute, I'll admit. It was an attempt at making a sibling for Sagramore's pet chicken, though."

[summerdude]

"Hey, Uncle D," Magnus says, coming into the room for some reason or another and doing a double-take at all the stuff. "Whoa. Cornucopia explosion?"

[vineleaves]

"Oh, hey kid! I woke up today able to make plants that aren't grapes! Isn't it exciting?"

[summerdude]

Magnus gives him a look like he thinks Uncle D is trying to pull his leg. "Uncle D, I've seen your garden. I know you can grow different stuff already."

[vineleaves]

"No, I mean, I can grow things magically." To demonstrate he makes several onions appear.

[summerdude]

"Whoa. How? Can you teach me?"

[vineleaves]

...That's a good question. "That's a good question. I dunno. I think it's just an expansion of how I usually make grapes? It ... it feels very similar, anyway. Except now I can do it for other things."

[summerdude]

Magnus is fascinated. "Can you make a pumpkin big enough to win a state fair?"

[vineleaves]

He laughs. “Probably! Though I don’t know what my hypothetical competition is.” He starts forming a pumpkin, small at first but it keeps growing, as does the twisting vine coming off the top. “Tell me when,” he says with a grin, still making it larger and larger.
