He isn't really sure how it happened, the first time. He went to make some jelly for toast, his thoughts drifted, perhaps, and he ended up not just with the jelly, but also with several bananas. This was, as you can imagine, a huge shock, and he actually jumped back when he first noticed them, startled by the absolute jumpscare of their appearance. He calmed down quickly enough, and started playing around to see what would happen.

In a way it makes sense. He has been able to tell that everything is more magical here this month, a complete opposite to the effect Dark had on things. During Dark his powers were weakened, so it would follow they are stronger now. He just didn't assume that would mean expanding his powers.

This, of course, brings us to now. It's early afternoon in one of the many parlors of the mansion, and he seems to finally have gotten the hang of things, as evidenced by the fact that he's absolutely surrounded by various fruits, fruit wines, preserves, vegetables, and even a few bags of rice. His thyrsus, which has scarcely left his side since he found it a few days ago, is resting against a wall. If his new powers are linked just to Rainbows, that means he has less than twelve hours to enjoy them. He's reasonably certain that the thyrsus will remain after the season changes.

"Really unfortunate this is happening now, and not, say, the week immediately before Dark." He makes a big jar of marmalade.

"Ooh, I wonder if I can --" the room is filled with a sweet floral scent as he makes a vine of honeysuckle appear in midair. "Okay, sorry, just wanted to test that. So, alright, what things were we most in need of last go around?"

"Besides alcohol? Really just a healthy variety of options, I believe. We had enough to get by but it was all rather plain." This says a lot, coming from Susan "postwar London rationing" Pevensie!

He makes a bottle of sake. "Thank goodness we know to prepare for it this year, so nobody has to go through all that again. Oh! Oh, look what I do actually have now, ideally for good!" He maneuvers around all of the vegetables and other things he has strewn about to go over to the wall and pick up the golden, pinecone-topped staff that's leaning there, adjusting the ribbon tied around it before showing it to Susan. "I found this the other day! It's my thyrsus! It, ah, it lets me make honey. So we should have plenty of that come Dark, for sure."

A flash of a smile crosses Susan's face. "I do love sweet things."

"Well then, the good news is that even if everything else you have to eat that month is disgusting, you will have plenty of honey you can drizzle on top to cover up the taste."

"Perfect," says Susan. "I do so appreciate you, Bacchus."

[vineleaves]

"Aww," he says, genuinely very touched. "Thank you, Susan, that means a lot. I appreciate you too. Don't want to know what sort of shambles this place would be in without you here."

"Oh, dreadful ones, I'm sure." Susan isn't shy about her strengths!

He smiles, and lets it linger for a moment before he proceeds to make a giant 50 pound bag of rice.

Susan's eyebrows climb, and she tilts her head, hair slipping over her shoulder. "Can you make dried beans?"

[vineleaves]

"Probably," he says with a grin. Moments later he's got a large sack of dried navy beans. "Oh good, that would've been really awkward if it hadn't worked," he laughs.

She covers her heart with a hand. "Gin?"

"That shouldn't be a problem at all, my dear," he says as he produces some gin in a bottle that is, perhaps, a little overly ornate. Bottles are one of his usual specialties though, so maybe showing off is allowed.

"Sloe gin?" she wonders. "Piccalilli? Tinned fish?"

“Oh, uh, not sure, actually, if I can manage fish,” he says, a little embarrassed. “Tried to make a chicken earlier and it didn’t turn out,” he motions to the grape vine chicken he made with Aziraphale earlier. Because the typist has just decided that thread happened earlier than this thread.

"Oh, how terribly charming," Susan exclaims, going to pick up and examine the little sculpture.

“I’m going to give it to Sagramore, I think. See if he wants to decorate his chicken castle with it.” Dionysus starts working on Susan’s other requests.

"A lovely idea. I'm sure he'll be touched." She isn't, actually, but she's working on making guesses about Sagramore at the moment, since he's - surprised her, of late.

Dionysus laughs. "Well, if by some chance he's not I won't be too upset. I didn't even intend to make this in the first place, you know."

"I'm very well-practiced with them," he says, grinning. "Like I am with all the things I'm the god of." This is clearly a completely innocent sentence with no deeper meaning or innuendo whatsoever¹.


1. This is a phrase which here means "he fully means to imply that he's good at sex".

And yet Susan is a clever woman, and very perceptive besides, and she picks up what he's putting down. "Ah," she says, raising her eyebrows, her eyes glinting. "Dance, is it?"
