Open: it's time now to sing out though the story never ends

[This is being posted early, but it is meant to be occurring on the one year anniversary of Dionysus arriving at the mansion.]

There's a room in the mansion Dionysus discovered somewhat recently that is, for lack of anything better to call it, a dance studio. Shiny hardwood floors, one long wall of mirror, the opposite wall featuring a mounted barre. If anyone happens to be walking by it today, the open door might catch their attention, as Dionysus has his cd player set up playing music, which he is dancing to at the moment. He's wearing a pair of gauzy, loose pants that sit low on his hips, complete with a gold belt with dangling chains that serve to help emphasize his movements. His hair is pulled up into a messy bun, finally long enough that he can get all of it up with only a minimum of strands sticking out oddly.

He has been here for a whole year. To be fair, he's only slightly certain he's got the date correct, but even if it hasn't been a full year to the exact minute or whatever, it's close enough. A whole year. A year trapped, held prisoner for some unknown reason, unable to break out, kept away from all of his friends and family. A year in which he has been given the wonderful opportunity to meet people he couldn't possibly imagine living without now, in a place where anything, even stopping death, is possible.

Dionysus is fairly zoned out as he dances, so if anyone decides to duck in and say hello, it might take him a while before he notices.

"Oh la la, that looks like a marvelous way to cut yourself." Still, though, he grabs another avocado and starts to attempt to replicate the feat.

[vineleaves]

"No, well, I already told you, don't cut yourself. Do this very carefully."

[futaille]

"I will endeavor not to, I assure you."

[vineleaves]

"Good. Anyway, so then you can sort of--" He runs the knife around one half of the avocado, to separate the part you eat from the part you don't, then plops it down in the bowl.

[futaille]

Grantaire contemplates that, and then just grabs a spoon and scoops the flesh out into the bowl.

[vineleaves]

"Oh yeah, that's probably safer," he says. "If you want to take care of the rest of the avocados¹ I'll start cutting the onion and tomatoes up. Ah, once they're in the bowl just mash 'em up."


1. How many avocados? How much guac are they making? Great questions. Probably too much guac.

[futaille]

He nods and starts working on cutting and scooping the indeterminate amount of avocados.

[vineleaves]

Dionysus, meanwhile, starts chopping up the other stuff. "This is going to be really awkward if we do all this work and then you don't even like guacamole."

[futaille]

"I'm sure that if that's the case, someone will still enjoy it."

[vineleaves]

"That's true! I'm sure someone'll come along and find it eventually."

[futaille]

"I am sure it will find a proper destination even if it is not with us."

[vineleaves]

Dionysus kisses Grantaire's cheek and finishes up chopping all the things that need chopped. "We'll mix this in after that's all smushed," he explains.

[futaille]

"I do wonder how many people over the years have made mention of what avocados are shaped like that aren't eggs or pears."

[vineleaves]

"I'll give you five guesses as to what the word that 'avocado' was derived from means."

[futaille]

He laughs. "Ah! So everyone."

[vineleaves]

"More or less!"

[futaille]

"Marvelous." He starts squashing the avocado innards with the back of his spoon.

[vineleaves]

Once Grantaire has everything properly smushed, Dionysus dumps the cut up onion, tomato, and cilantro in, along with some salt, pepper, and lime juice. "Now it just needs to be stirred all up." Meanwhile, he puts the mansion-spirit-cooked meat in the microwave to start heating up.

[futaille]

"Fortunately, I have a spoon that seems to be purpose built for the task." He promptly stirs.

[vineleaves]

Dionysus steals Grantaire's hat and puts it on, his little bun fitting perfectly up in it.

[futaille]

He laughs. "Truly enhances the look."

[vineleaves]

"Now I'm tall." The microwave beeps and he takes the container out.

[futaille]

"Positively towering. Like the plucked chicken."

[vineleaves]

"They'll have to build an observation deck on me somewhere."

[futaille]

"It will lead to very scenic views."
