Open: Takes a lot of medicine to make it through the wintertime

The first day of Dark was difficult enough to get through. When the situation didn't improve after a few days, however, Dionysus really began to worry. That the house would stop cooperating when it comes to creating food at the same time his own powers of generation have become so severely diminished... it doesn't sit easy with him.

He is grateful that he still has some powers, but he's been finding it difficult to produce grapes or wine (or any related products) of any quality, whereas before it came to him like breathing. But he considers it his duty to do what he can to offset the dwindling supplies, so every day he spends a few hours creating what he can: grapes, raisins, cartons of grape juice, and of course, bottles of wine, before diligently distributing it to the various kitchens and eating-places in the house. Wherever he thinks people may go to look for something to eat. Should anyone need him, he shouldn't be too difficult to locate.

"And the water seems unchanged. That's a blessing. Clean water."

"Yes. Less people getting ill, certainly."

"Let's not give the spirits here any ideas," he says, thinking on it. "The last thing we need is a plague. So in interest of not jinxing ourselves, let's change topics, shall we? You know, I do know so little about you -- ah, aside from the ...events that led up to you arriving here. But we've hardly spoken, what are your hobbies? How are you occupying your time here, and all that." Dionysus is trying very hard to not, well, fanboy as much as he did at their first meeting. For the most part he is succeeding; he's talking a lot slower than he sometimes does, and is even using what could accurately be called an 'inside voice'. But he does desperately want to be friends with Enjolras, which is probably still evident.

Enjolras does in fact appreciate that. He is not the best at meeting new people —some would call him prickly and cold, and they would be justified, but he can at least tell when someone is making an effort. “Oh —well. You have seen the café, Grantaire and I set it up. I fence, from time to time, and spar with Laertes; and write. There is much to catch up on with reading.” He motions at the bread he set down earlier. “I am a poor baker; but I suppose anything is welcome in this season. There is also a printing press I am teaching myself to use.”

“Oh yes! The fencing! I remember.” From their first meeting. “Laertes and I are going to have acting classes soon. If you wanted to join I’m sure he would appreciate a scene partner, though it does sound like you’ve got a lot on your plate as it is.” He nods to the bread.

“It’s very kind of you to be helping out by making that. I’m sure it’s lovely, don’t sell yourself short.”

“I —thank you, but I do not think I would be much of an actor.” He can think of at least one of his friends who would jump at the chance, however. “It is alright. It’s better than the baguette I attempted, at least.”

"I bet you'd make a great stage manager," he says off-hand, before realizing and adding, "Ah, sorry, I don't mean to try and bully you into joining theatre." Even if it is the most fun and most rewarding experience any person can have in their entire life, as far as he's concerned. "Just an observation."

“I wouldn’t have the slightest idea where to start. I have seen some plays before; but I do not recall many of them. Other than those written by Voltaire or Rousseau or someone I read often enough.” He has, for example, seen Hamlet. Does he remember that fact? Of course not.

“Stage managers keep everyone organized. Make sure things happen when they’re meant to. You need to be good at keeping track of everything all at once. It’s a difficult job.” The implication there is that Dionysus still thinks Enjolras would be good at it regardless. “But again, I don’t say this in an attempt to pressure you into anything you don’t want to do. Just making conversation.”

Enjolras is nearly tempted to ask 'how do you know how good I am at organizing things', considers it for a moment, but then decides against it. It's probably best not to ask. "Mm. Well. If Mlle. Susan is indeed involved in the play, I doubt she would want me to have any part in it. If it does even happen."

[vineleaves]

His face drops. "Don't say that. It's going to happen, I'm sure of it. It has to happen." He has been without that familiar hum of prayer in the back, god-part of his mind for too long. Even if it's just one performance happening instead of the usual countless, it would be better than nothing.

Besides, he's just excited about it on a normal person level too. After how terrible this month has been, he needs something to look forward to.

“It likely will; I just do not intend to be a part of it save by watching.” He has never considered how the god of theater might react to a play being performed; and so is unaware of any mild panic that Dionysus might be experiencing. However, he will certainly be in attendance if Laertes is performing; also if Nina is, but he and Susan should probably remain far apart if they do work on something.

"Oh but you will come watch then, that's lovely! The audience is important as well, you know. A good or bad audience can influence the performance happening just as much as the actors themselves."

"I will take your word for it. I have seen plays before, but I do not recall much of them."

[vineleaves]

"There's some I wish I could forget," he says with a small laugh. "But in general, I love them."

[untamedantinous]

“One would expect the god of theater to do so, yes.”

[vineleaves]

"I guess I am a bit of a cliche, huh."

[untamedantinous]

“I wouldn’t say that; I would say —ah, you are simply…focused.”

[vineleaves]

He laughs. "I guess that's a word for it. It's -- it's a big part of my life, you know. Hard to not focus on it."

[untamedantinous]

"Mm. I know the feeling."

[vineleaves]

"I guess you'd need to be pretty focused to accomplish everything you did."

[untamedantinous]

He cannot help but roll his eyes a little. "It was not only me."

[vineleaves]

"I imagine you were all probably fairly focused?"

Maybe not Grantaire but he's a special case. Also, Marius was focused, just seemingly on different things, if the musical is anything to go by.

[untamedantinous]

"...Yes." He's just -- not going to ask how Dionysus might know that; he's pretty certain he would not enjoy the answer. "...On various topics, of course," he adds wryly, thinking of their Pontmercy exception to the rule.

"It's important to have hobbies," he responds, equally wryly.
